The Center for Global Sustainability (CGS) at the University of Maryland has a delegation present at COP28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates from November 30 - December 12, 2023. The Conference of Parties (COP) is a decision-making forum of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), bringing signatory governments together once a year to discuss and agree on how to jointly address climate change and its impacts. CGS will join world leaders, negotiators, climate policy researchers and scientists, international organizations, and the media to mobilize ideas and solutions for climate action.
CGS will bring our expertise to COP28 at a critical moment for global transformative climate action. Our attendees include Director Nate Hultman, Research Director Ryna Cui, Assistant Research Professor Mengye Zhu, Senior Manager of Strategic Engagement Shannon Kennedy, Assistant Research Professor Jiehong Lou, Assistant Research Scholar Zarrar Khan, and School of Public Policy Professor Anand Patwardhan. In addition to participating and hosting several events at COP28, CGS will also launch several new reports.
