Join us on Wednesday, April 22nd from 2:00 - 4:30 PM for a digital celebration of Earth Day’s 50th Anniversary. Co-hosted by University of Maryland’s Office of Sustainability, Global Sustainability Initiative, and Student Sustainability Committee, “Earth Day at Maryland: 50 Years of Sustainable Solutions” will bring together thought leaders, activists, and eager learners across sectors, issue-areas, and time zones for this online event.
Climate activist, author, and founder of 350.org, Bill McKibben will offer the opening remarks to a powerful keynote panel from leaders on the forefront of the climate fight in Maryland and Washington DC. Following, participants will break into small groups for engaged discussion on specific topics--including innovation, climate finance, and environmental justice. We hope participants will utilize these sessions to share best practices for advancing change and innovative ideas for the future of this ever-complex social movement. Through cross-sector collaboration we aim to understand our next steps in Maryland, a state already leading the charge on sustainable solutions, to actionably address climate change moving forward.
Panel speakers include CGS Director Nate Hultman, Delegate Vaughn Steward (MD-19), Chris Hoagland of Maryland Department of the Environment, and Emily Frias of Chesapeake Climate Action Network, moderated by Student Government Director of Sustainability, Candela Cerpa.
The event will take place digitally via Zoom. Access details will be sent to RSVP-ed attendees via email.
