On June 1, the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation announced its 2021 leadership scholarship recipients. Among the 15 finalists is Kowan O’Keefe, a second-year Ph.D student within the School of Public Policy. O’Keefe’s research centers on decarbonization policies and strategy, and he is a member of the interdisciplinary team at the Center for Global Sustainability. The Foundation selected O’Keefe and the other finalists from an application pool of more than 600 candidates.

The Trudeau Scholar program offers support to diverse doctoral researchers who will engage in the program’s curriculum alongside their graduate studies. Through this experience, the scholars will learn how to become more impactful researchers and engaged leaders. The foundation also offers scholars financial support, academic resources, personalized training, and other sources of guidance.

“It’s an honour and a privilege to be selected as a Trudeau Scholar and I’m looking forward to making the most of the opportunities provided by the Pierre Elliott Trudeau Foundation that come along with this scholarship,” says Kowan. “I’m proud to be part of the SPP community, and I’m especially thankful for the guidance and support from professors Robert Sprinkle and Leon Clarke, as well as the CGS Energy & Climate Team.”
