The Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) awarded PhD student Clifton Cottrell a 2020 Equity & Inclusion Fellowship for his research on indigenous climate resilience.
The Equity & Inclusion Fellowship program supports the participation of students from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds at the annual APPAM Fall Research Conference. As this year’s conference is virtual, the 20 awarded fellowships will also have an opportunity to attend and receive recognition at the 2021 Fall Research Conference.
“This will be my first APPAM Fall Research Conference, and I am excited to present some of my own research as well as represent SPP as an Equity and Inclusion Fellow,” said Cottrell. “Much of my work at UMD has focused on unrecognized indigenous communities, and I hope that my participation at APPAM will continue to shed light on these groups and find ways to bring more indigenous peoples to the climate change discussion.”
This year’s conference is November 11-13, and will focus on the relationship between research and policymaking, the challenges of policy implementation in real-world contexts and how success or failure can focus attention to the next policy lifecycle.
