Do Businesses that Disclose Climate Change Information Emit Less Carbon? Evidence from S&P 500 Firms

This presentation will explore management of the environment and global commons and the ways in which behaviors of firms and organizations, specifically those that disclose climate change information, are shaped by multiple forces from markets to government policies.

About the speaker: Lily Hsueh is an Assistant Professor of Public Policy and Economics at the School of Public Affairs, Arizona State University. Dr. Hsueh’s areas of expertise are in alternative and nonregulatory approaches to environmental policy and management, environmental and natural resource economics, political economy, governance, business & public policy, and applied econometrics. Her substantive areas of interests include climate change, ocean and marine resources, toxics, natural disasters, sustainable public procurement. She has published articles in the Journal of the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists, Journal of Environmental Management, Environmental Science & Policy, Governance, Regulation & Governance, International Interactions, Business Strategy and the Environment, among others.

Dr. Hsueh is currently working on a book (under contract at MIT Press) on the demand for and supply of global businesses’ proactive climate mitigation and adaptation. Funders for her work include the National Research Council, National Oceanic Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and the V. Kann Rasmussen Foundation. Dr. Hsueh was a National Research Council Postdoctoral Fellow at NOAA. Before academia, she was a Senior Analyst at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. Dr. Hsueh received a Ph.D. in Public Policy & Management from the University of Washington, a MSc in Economics from University College London, and a BA in Economics from UC Berkeley.
