Join the Center for Global Sustainability (CGS) at the University of Maryland on Tuesday, May 14th, as we host Dr. Robert Nasi, Chief Operating Officer of CIFOR-ICRAF and global expert on forests.

Talk abstract:

The world seems to be the victim of a carbon tunnel vision in which forests, trees become reduced to mere “carbon sticks.” This deserves a much more nuanced perspective. Forests harbor a rich tapestry of life, culture, and ecological services and it happens that they also store and absorb carbon. In this talk, we will delve into the multifaceted nature of forests, exploring their biodiversity, ecosystem functions, and the intricate relationships between humans and forests. From providing habitat for countless species to regulating climate impacts to our health, forests are not just carbon sticks—they are the beating heart of our planet.
