About the event

Dr. Xi Liang will speak on the importance of Carbon Capture Utilization and Storage (CCUS) technology in mitigating climate change. Since a majority of economies announced carbon neutrality targets, CCUS will play a bigger role in the next half century. The talk reviews the development of CCUS technologies, projects and policies in China in the last two decades, analyzes CCUS applications in power, cement, steel and petrochemical sectors, outlines the cost reduction potential and gives an outlook for CCUS development in the country. The seminar will also cover the latest agenda of China’s climate investment and finance policy framework.

About the speaker

Dr. Xi Liang

Dr. Xi Liang is currently Professor of Sustainable Construction and Project Management at Bartlett School of Sustainable Construction at University College London. Prior to joining UCL, he has been a Senior Lecturer in Energy Finance and Director at the Centre for Business and Climate Change (CBCC) at the University of Edinburgh. Dr. Liang is currently driving the improvement of carbon capture technologies and is creating a future proof climate finance and emission reduction project frameworks. Additionally, Dr. Liang is a Standing Committee Member for China’s Climate Investment and Finance Association (CIFA) and Deputy Director for China’s CCUS Committee, within Chinese Society for Environmental Sciences.
